A message to all members of Patriot Action NetworkA Twitter Tea Party this weekend.
We are joining forces with Tea Party Nation to take a stand this weekend and create a major Twitter buzz that will be heard and seen in DC.
We need a massive Tea Party rally this weekend to support the House Republicans who are standing firm against Obama. As Pat Buchanan said in a column today, it is the Tea Party that has held the GOP’s feet to the fire. We are on the verge of winning but we must support them. Additionally, we need to send a strong message to the Senate that we mean business!
But how? We do not have time to rally. There is a very simple answer.
Twitter is our friend.
This weekend we must do a non-stop Twitter Tea Party.
How does a Twitter Tea Party work?
First, you need a Twitter account. Go to WWW.Twitter.Com to sign up. It is as easy as signing up for an email account. If you already have a twitter account and are familiar with twitter, skip to the end of this article for the information on the Twitter Tea Party.
If you are not familiar with it, Twitter allows you to send messages of 140 charecters or less. You can send your messages through the Twitter webpage or you can use a third party utility like Tweetdeck which lets you send tweets out through your computer without having to log into the Twitter site. You can also send tweets from your IPhone, Android or other smart phone. Many people tweet on the run using their smart phones.
Almost every Congressman and Senator has a Twitter feed. You can search for them by name on twitter or do a Google Search for them. My Congressman is Marsha Blackburn and her twitter feed is marshablackburn.
To send a message to your Congressman or Senator, you simply start your tweet with @ and the name. Sending something to my Congressman would be @marshablackburn.
To send messages to the House GOP leaders, here are the addresses: @speakerboehner @JohnBoehner, @EricCantor and @KevinoMccarthy, @GOPLeader and @GOPWhip, to the House Floor is @housefloor Senate Floor is @senatefloor
Twitter also uses something called Hashtags. Hashtags let you search for something by a topic or interest. A hashtag begins with the symbol #. Some popular conservative hashtags include #tcot (top conservatives on twitter), #Teaparty, #GOP and Patriot Action Network's hashtag, #pan. Hastags can be created and sometimes new hashtags surge.
That is twitter in a nutshell.
This weekend we need a Twitter Tea Party!
Start with your twitter account. Send Tweets to the GOP leadership and House and Senate Floor. While they do not personally look at them, their staff does, even on the weekends and will report to them. This will get their attention.
Send out an email to everyone on your Tea Party mailing list. Copy this article if you want to and send it to people on your list.
Tweet positive messages of support to the House GOP leadership, telling them to stand strong. Tell them America is with them and we want spending cut, no increase in the Debt Ceiling, and no new taxes.
Example of a tweet I just sent out:
@housefloor @speakerboehner @gopleader Stand Firm, No Tax Hikes, No raising debt ceiling! #tcot #predeclined #twitterteaparty #gop
Be sure to use #predeclined and #twitterteaparty on all your tweets!
You can change the content, include @ with your congressman's name etc... several tweets a day will help!
One final thing on Twitter. You can follow people on Twitter. Following means you will automatically receive their twitter updates. If you are on Twitter this weekend, I would be honored if you would follow me and Patriot Action Network. You can follow me @DarlaDawald and @PatriotActionNW.
Fighting this fight is something we can do this weekend while we do the grocery shopping or even while we are spending time with our families.
This weekend is crucial. We must win.
